Hazard: Chelsea Not Made To Play Football

May 1, 2014 1:53 PM

Chelsea fell 3-1 to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League Semifinal after taking an early lead with a Fernando Torres goal.

Eden Hazard didn't appear to be at full healthy, but he spoke more existentially about Chelsea's tactics as he goes into a summer with an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

"I don't know what we lacked," Hazard told beIN Sport. "After scoring, we had the game in our hands. Maybe they wanted it more than we did... It was an intense game. Beautiful to watch with opportunities.

"I'm sad but logic has been respected because they deserved to qualify.

"Chelsea is not made to play football. We're good on the counter, a little bit like Real against Bayern.

"We did it well tonight since we scored. But their goal hurt us before the break. We failed to make the difference in the second half.

"Often, I'm asked to do it all by myself and it's not easy. It was a complicated game. It will be a lesson for us regarding next year."

Hazard has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain and he previously told the media that he would have to consider a move if his wife insisted upon it.

Liverpool Confident Luis Suarez Won't Want To Leave In Summer

Apr 30, 2014 11:07 AM

The outstanding season from Luis Suarez has triggered rumors that Real Madrid has renewed their interest in a transfer for the striker.

But Brendan Rodgers is confident that Suarez wants to remain with Liverpool.

"Luis understands he may not get the same love he does at Liverpool from anywhere else.

"From the first year, he knew I would shape the team around his qualities. He loves the city and the supporters. Also, guys like Steven Gerrard talked to him, telling him there was an opportunity to be a legend at the club."

Suarez was named PFA Player of the Year on Sunday.

"His loyalty in staying at Liverpool, to continue to fight for the club to get us there, is remarkable. Hopefully he gets the rewards for that with those big European nights next season."

Atlético Madrid Planning On Keeping Diego Costa

Apr 30, 2014 11:06 AM

Atlético Madrid is planning on keeping Diego Costa through the summer transfer window.

Costa has received interest from a host of more wealthy clubs, most notably Chelsea. Costa has scored 35 goals in all competitions.

"Last year we wanted to consolidate the group of players that we currently have," said sporting director Jose Luis Caminero in an interview with Movistar.

"We renewed the contracts of pretty much all of them, including Diego Costa.

"Our minds are set on keeping this group of players together and steadily bring in one or two more, who can reinforce what we're doing with our project.

"We want all our big players to stay and we're planning for next season with him."

Hummels Hopes Shinji Kagawa Returns To Dormund

Apr 28, 2014 12:01 PM

Mats Hummels would love former teammate Shinji Kagawa to return to Borussia Dortmund this summer.

When Mario Goetze left Dortmund for Bayern in 2013, the club reportedly made a move for Kagawa.

“We would take Shinji with the greatest pleasure,” Hummels told kicker on Monday. “To form an attacking midfield with [Marco] Reus, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan and Kagawa -- that would absolutely have style. And that’s nothing against our other amazing players. The attacking midfield, also without Shinji, is our best staffed part of the team.”

Rio Ferdinand Considering Foreign Move, Would Prefer To Stay At United

Apr 28, 2014 10:42 AM

Rio Ferdinand is considering offers from Galatasaray, Besiktas, LA Galaxy and Al Gharafa, but he would prefer to remain with Manchester United next season.

United has an option, expiring next month, to extend his deal by one season.

"I'm going to continue playing," Ferdinand said. "Whether it's here, I don't know. But I hope so."

Ferdinand, speaking for the first time since David Moyes's removal, added that players have to take some blame for the dismal campaign. "It's embarrassing. You don't want to look at the league table and see where we are. We were saying [before] I've not looked at the league table for ages, but it's because you don't want to."

"But that's down to us as players. We take responsibility for that as much as anyone else. We are where we are and we have to take some responsibility for that. We are not shirkers and we are not people who don't take responsibility. I don't think you get to where we have got to in our careers without taking responsibility and this is no different."
